The journalist was detained by the police when he was covering a protest action in the city center. He was taken to the district police department, where he was accused of participating in an unauthorized event (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). He was held in a detention center for two days until the trial. On November 9, based on the police report, Popkov was found guilty and arrested for 15 days. On November 24, the journalist was deported from the country «in the interests of public safety».
