The journalist was detained by security officials when he was covering a protest action in the city's center. He was taken to the police department, where an administrative report was drawn up on him for participation in an unauthorized event (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). He was held for three days in a detention center until the trial. On October 23, the court found Roman Chmel guilty and arrested him for 15 days.
