Magas District Court sentenced Rashid Maisigov to three years in a penal colony for possession of drugs on a large scale (Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Considering the time he spent in the pre-trial detention and under house arrest, the journalist will spend two years and three months in the colony. The prosecutor asked for five years in prison. Maisigov pleaded not guilty. He claimed that the drugs were planted on him and associated this with his journalistic activities.
