The Moscow Arbitration Court has declared bankrupt Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty LLC, a Russian legal entity of Radio Svoboda. The court ruled to open bankruptcy proceedings against the legal entity, which is the final stage of bankruptcy, during which the firm’s property is sold to pay off debts. Earlier, it had been planned to conduct bankruptcy under the simplified procedure, but in August, the Federal Tax Service asked to conduct it under the normal procedure, referring to the fact that Radio Svoboda had the property that could be used to pay for the procedure. The formal reason for liquidating the Russian legal entity was the non-payment of taxes. A Radio Svoboda representative pointed out that taxes could not be paid due to blocked accounts. Since 2021, Radio Svoboda has been fined more than a billion rubles in Russia.
