On March 5, the Russian military kidnapped the fixer of Radio France (name unknown). His car, marked «Press», was shelled. The media worker was tortured in captivity for nine days. According to Reporters Without Borders, he was beaten, electrocuted, held in an icy basement with water, interrogated, and not given food for 48 hours. He was also thrown into a ditch next to a dead dog and given a mock execution. The soldiers forced the journalist to write and sign a letter in which he declared his support for the Russian army and the invasion of Ukraine. On March 13, the journalist was released.
