Telegram channel Qoraqalpog'istonliklar konstitutsiyasi (Constitution of Karakalpakstan), created on June 26, was deleted a day later at the demand of the authorities. Over 100,000 users which called for mass protests were subscribed to the channel. The reason for the outrage was the proposed amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan that deprived Karakalpakstan of its sovereignty status. Article 74 of the Constitution contains a provision on the right to secede from Uzbekistan on the basis of a general referendum of the people of Karakalpakstan.
