The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has re-sentenced in absentia former Mediazona publisher Pyotr Verzilov in the case of military «fakes»: eight years and four months in prison. Verzilov was banned from posting materials on the Internet for three years and 10 months. The first verdict in the case, handed down in 2023, was cancelled due to procedural violations. The reason for the prosecution of Verzilov were two tweets and two posts on Instagram about the murders in Bucha. A case of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is also being investigated against Verzilov. In March 2024, law enforcers conducted at least three dozen searches in seven cities as part of this case.
