Incident date: July 7, 2022

Attack type:

  • Non-fatal attack / beating / injury / torture

Who attacked: Authorities

Source: Belarusian Association of Journalists

Location: Belarus, Ivatsevichy

Additional information:

Pavel Dajlid, the correspondent of the Hantsavitski Chas website, was detained and spent three days in the temporary detention facility of the Ivatsevichy police department. He was released on July 10 until the trial. The journalist was taken from his home in the evening. The reason for the administrative prosecution was a photo posted on Dajlid’s social network page against a white-red-white flag during campaign pickets during the presidential election campaign in the summer of 2020. Law enforcers regarded the photo of the journalist as illegal picketing. According to Dajlid, the detention center for political prisoners had «special» inhumane detention conditions: he slept on a metal bed frame, was not given bedding, basic personal hygiene products and parcels from relatives. The bright lights were on all night and the authorities also woke him up twice during the night for roll-call. The prisoners were taken out of the cell only when handcuffed.
