On November 24, the Khanabad City Court found Otabek Akhliddinov, a blogger and head of the reception and diagnostic department at the Shakhrikhan district medical association in the Andijan province, guilty under Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 165 (extortion by a repeat or dangerous recidivist) and Paragraph A of Part 3 of Article 167 (embezzlement on a particularly large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The court sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold materially responsible positions in state bodies and to engage in blogging activities for 3 years. Otabek Akhliddinov has six children and is a member of the human rights organisation Ezgulik.
