The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek considered the measure of restraint against journalist Olzhobay Shakir. The court arrested the journalist until October 20. The journalist was detained on August 23 by the State Committee for National Security officers, interrogated, and sent to a temporary detention centre. He is accused of calling for active disobedience to law enforcement officers, mass riots, and attempted seizure of power. Earlier, Shakir said on his Facebook page that on August 31, Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day, he intended to hold a rally against the transfer of four guesthouses on Lake Issyk-Kul to Uzbekistan. For the past month, the issue of the authorities handing over these recreation areas to the neighbouring country for 49 years has been actively discussed in the country.
