On December 1, a meeting was scheduled at the Shymkent City Akimat, where they were to approve the candidacy of the new akim of the megalopolis. Katerina Popkova and Nursultan Abbaz, correspondents of the Khabar 24 TV channel, contacted the Department of Internal Policy to clarify the time of the meeting. They said that the meeting was scheduled for the morning, but they promised to give the exact time later. A few minutes later, journalists received a call back from the Department of Internal Policy and, with a reference to a certain ban, were told that the media would not be allowed to attend the event. The department did not specify who exactly prohibited the media to cover the approval of the new akim.
