Under the threat of being blocked, Roskomnadzor demanded that Novaya Gazeta’s materials about the war in Ukraine be removed. The media complied with this demand. The information «about the Russian Armed Forces’ shelling of Ukrainian cities and the deaths of Ukrainian civilians as a result of the actions of the Russian Army» and all «materials in which the ongoing operation is called an attack, an invasion, or a declaration of war» were banned. Novaya Gazeta removed, in particular, the online broadcasts, the statement of the independent media members of the Syndicate-100, and the statements of the media’s editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov. Mediazona, TV Rain, and many other media outlets received similar notices.
