Journalist Nikoloz Chiraqadze was fined for "violating traffic rules" on Rustveli Avenue on January 17. The Georgian Dream government introduced stricter regulations for protests, under which "blocking a road" is fined GEL 5,000 (USD 1,800). Chiraqadze was covering the protest that day, and authorities have been fining journalists for this offence. Chiraqadze has appealed the fine, though appeals in cases involving journalists are often delayed and prolonged.
