On September 11, the information resource NewTimes.kz reported DDoS attacks that began on August 30. On August 31, the website stopped functioning due to multiple requests typical of DDoS attacks. Technicians blocked more than 6 thousand IP-addresses. The attacks came from Brazil and Ecuador. It was decided to close external access to the website, leaving it available only for users in Kazakhstan. However, on September 11, an overload with an excessive number of requests was noticed, which led to a short-term shutdown of the website. Also, on September 10, a spam mailing to the editorial office’s e-mail address (about a thousand messages from dubious addresses) was detected and deleted. The editorial office urged readers and advertisers to be sympathetic to possible disruptions in the website’s operation.
