Using the protection of personal data as an excuse, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime refused to provide to the editorial office of Ziarul de Garda information of public interest regarding possible criminal cases against the presidents, vice-presidents and general secretaries of certain political parties registered for the July 11, 2021, early parliamentary elections. However, experts in the field of media and the law on personal data argue that in this case, the authorities' refusal to provide data is unjustified, and the law on personal data protection is misinterpreted.
