On April 22, a court in Almaty sanctioned the house arrest of the journalist Nargiz Severnaya. Journalists Vladimir Severny and his wife Nargiz were detained in front of their children in Almaty on April 20, 2023, in a shopping centre in Almaty. The press service later reported that the journalists were detained in connection with an extortion investigation.
