On December 1, the Khatai District Court of Baku sanctioned the arrest for 3 months of the journalist of the online media outlet Abzas Media Nargiz Absalamova on charges of smuggling by prior conspiracy with a group of persons (Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan). Journalist Absalamova pleaded not guilty, claiming that she is being persecuted for her journalistic activities. The investigation alleges collusion between Absalamova and three other previously detained Abzas Media employees — Ulvi Hasanli, Sevinj Vagifgyzy, and Mohammed Kekalov. Following Absalamova’s detention, her colleagues gathered outside the court building on November 30 and faced police violence.
