The 2nd Western District Military Court has imposed a fine of 600,000 roubles (€6,000) on journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, who was charged with justifying terrorism over two posts on her Telegram channel. The prosecution had sought a six-year prison sentence, a fine of 500,000 roubles (€5,000), and a five-year ban on posting online. Judge Roman Vladimirov initially set the fine at 700,000 roubles (€7,000), but the amount was reduced to take into account the time the journalist had spent in pre-trial detention. The court ordered her release from custody in the courtroom. The journalist was detained in early May 2024. The court placed her in pre-trial detention. Kevorkova does not admit guilt.
