Nadezhda Kalinina tried to get access to the congress of delegates of the pro-government All-Belarusian People's Assembly in Minsk. She was not allowed to enter the building where the event was taking place. When she left, she was detained. She was taken to the police station, where she was accused of taking part in an unauthorised protest and disobeying a police officer. Prior to the trial, she was placed in solitary confinement for three days. Nadezhda called the conditions at the prison “far from normal”. There were 12 in a cell designed to hold 5 people, there was not enough air, a bright light was constantly on, and loud music was played non-stop during the day. The journalist slept on the floor on her jacket. On 1 February, she went to trial. She pleaded innocent. As a result, the judge adjourned the hearing until the video recording of the journalist’s arrest was available. Three days had passed since Kalinina’s arrest, so she was released.
