On June 4, the Yashnabad District Criminal Court of Tashkent sentenced 42-year-old blogger Murod Makhsudov to 7,5 years in a general regime colony. The blogger, who had no previous convictions, was found guilty under Paragraphs A and D of Part 3 of Article 139 (libel connected with accusations of committing a grave or especially grave offence, as well as committed out of selfish or other base motives), Paragraph B of Part 2 of Article 165 (extortion committed on a large scale) and Paragraphs B and D of Part 2 of Article 167 (embezzlement or misappropriation of property committed repeatedly and through abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the same time, the court declared Murod Makhsudov not guilty under Paragraphs 1 and 2 of Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (fraud and fraud on a significant scale or by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) and rehabilitated him under that article.
