The author of the Telegram channel Kozachkovoffside and correspondent of the newspaper Vremya Mikhail Kozachkov was detained on December 18. According to the Financial Monitoring Agency, the journalist is suspected of aiding Kospayev's organised crime group in raiding and spreading deliberately false information. He was taken to testify at the Department of Economic Investigations in Almaty. At that time, a search was conducted in Kozachkov's home. The search took place without the presence of the journalist's lawyers and his wife, who were not allowed into the flat. Colleagues and human rights activists believe that repressions started against the journalist because of his professional activities.
