The Abakan City Court sentenced Mikhail Afanasyev to five and a half years of jail in the case of «fakes» about the Russian army (Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The journalist was also banned from publishing materials in the media and on the Internet for two and a half years after his release. Afanasyev has been in pre-trial detention centre since April 2022. The case was opened for the article about the defeat of Khakassian riot police near Kyiv and its consequences.
