The security officials detained Marina Smirnova on the street when an action of protest against the presidential election results was taking place. She was taken to the police department, where she was accused of participation in an unauthorized event (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus), and held in the detention centre for two days until the trial. On December 1, the court found the journalist guilty based on the police report and arrested her for 15 days.
