The Russian Ministry of Justice has added former Channel One employee Marina Ovsyannikova to its list of “foreign agents.” The ministry stated that Ovsyannikova spread “false information” about the actions and policies of the Russian government, as well as “unreliable information” intended to “create a negative image” of the Russian Armed Forces. She also publicly opposed the “special military operation in Ukraine” and took part in distributing materials from “foreign agents” to a broad audience. In 2022, Ovsyannikova made headlines after holding up an anti-war sign during a live news broadcast, which led to her dismissal and criminal charges. She later escaped house arrest and sought political asylum in France.
