Ovsyannikova was detained after her protest action on the air of the program Vremya: she entered the studio with an anti-war poster. The journalist was subjected to 14 hours of overnight interrogation by the police and was not allowed to contact her lawyer. The next day, the Ostankinsky District Court fined her RUB 30,000 under Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation for organizing an unauthorized action for a video call to protest against the war, recorded in advance and published immediately after her detention. Ovsyannikova is also under investigation under a new criminal article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the armed forces). France offered asylum to the journalist; she said that she was going to stay in the country.
