On 16-17 April, there was a protest against the foreign agents' draft law outside the parliament. At around 12:30, riot police used force on people without prior warning, including journalists. When the dispersal started, Mariam Nikuradze was documenting riot police officers beating protesters. The police prevented her from doing so, pushed her and demanded her to leave the area.
