Photographer Mariam Giunashvili was targeted with pepper spray by riot police during the dispersal of an anti-government protest on election day. Giunashvili reported that she was sprayed from three different directions, resulting in burns on her arms and face. “Pepper spray was sprayed at me from three different directions — directly in the face from the front, and across my whole body from the sides. I sustained particularly severe burns on my hands and arms,” Giunashvili said in an interview with the independent online platform Mediachecker.
