The Sino District Court of Dushanbe sentenced Mamadsulton Mavlonazarov (Mukhammadi Sulton), a journalist and former employee of Tajikistan's state security agencies, to seven years in prison. Mavlonazarov was found guilty of public calls for violent change of the constitutional order using the media or the Internet (Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan) and of insulting a representative of authority in the media or on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 330 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan). Mavlonazarov was detained early on the morning of June 16 in his apartment in Dushanbe, right in bed. 72-years-old Mavlonazarov was a member of the youth newspaper Komsomoli Tojikiston (Komsomolets of Tajikistan) in the 1970s and joined the Tajikistan KGB, where he worked for a quarter of a century. In recent years, Mavlonazarov frequently published posts on Facebook in which, in particular, he criticized the leadership of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan.
