The author of the Telegram channel Abzhannews, journalist Makhambet Abzhan, is a witness with the right to defence in a criminal case initiated for dissemination of knowingly false information committed with the use of mass media or information and communication networks. The pre-trial investigation was launched by the police in connection with Abzhan’s interview for TV Rain on January 4. In it, the journalist spoke about the rallies taking place in Kazakhstan. After that, the police came to his home allegedly due to noise complaints from neighbours. On January 25, Abzhan was summoned for additional questioning about the events of January 4-5, and the transcript of his interview with the Russian TV channel was sent for forensic psychological and philological examination.
