The investigators took away the birth certificate of the son of the arrested head of Temirov Live, Makhabat Tazhibek kyzy, during the search at her home. The search was conducted as part of the mass arrest of 11 investigative journalists of Temirov Live, then followed by the arrest and placement of the journalist in a pre-trial detention centre. She, as well as her colleagues, is charged under Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (calls for mass riots), which provides for up to 8 years in prison. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the reason for the case was one of the episodes of Temirov Live in December 2023, where experts allegedly found signs of calls for mass riots. Bolot Temirov, founder and investigative journalist of Temirov Live and husband of Makhabat Tazhibek kyzy, said that the investigators threatened to hand their child over to an orphanage after taking away his birth certificate.
