Journalist and founder of the Makan.uz website Lolagul Kallykhanova was sentenced at her trial in Bukhara to eight years' suspended imprisonment with three years' probation. With Kallykhanova in custody, the sentence was reduced to 7 years, 5 months and 6 days. After the verdict was pronounced, she was released from custody in the courtroom. Lolagul was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 159 (conspiracy to seize power or overthrow the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan), Part 3 of Article 244 (organization of mass riots), and Paragraphs A, B, and D of Article 244-1 (preparation, storage, distribution or display of materials threatening public security and public order, committed by prior conspiracy or a group of persons; using official position; using media or telecommunications networks and the Internet) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
