On June 1, a military garrison court in Almaty considered the case of a serviceman accused of the death of Yelnar Kanceyitov during the January events. The Qazaq Times journalists Kultegin Aspanuly and Didar Kaliyev filmed the events with the judge’s permission. At the end of the court session, a representative of the father of the deceased, A. Zhumanov, attacked the journalists, took away one of their phones and threw the camera on the floor. Later, in the corridor of the court, he aggressively demanded from the journalist to stop filming, although the journalist was not filming. Zhumanov injured the finger of a second journalist and smashed his equipment. The journalists filed a complaint with the police.
