On August 22, the website of the online media KRuz.uz, one of the first private media outlets in Karakalpakstan, announced its shutdown after six years of operation. The reasons for the shutdown, including financial ones, were not disclosed. «From now on, any communities or groups opened under the name KRuz.uz have unofficial status. The administration of the website expresses its great gratitude to all subscribers who have been with KRuz.uz since 2016», — the statement said. Later, it was deleted. In the media’s Telegram channel with 33,700 subscribers, all messages were deleted, and the Instagram page was inaccessible. After the July crackdown on protests that resulted in casualties, the main version of the shutdown was pressure from the authorities.
