Konstantin Rashevsky, the correspondent of the weekly newspaper Nasha Gazeta, was detained by police in Kostanay on January 6 while riots were taking place. According to his colleague, police took Konstantin to a police van, confiscated his phone, and deleted all photographs and videos. When detained, Rashevsky introduced himself, explained that he had left his press vest and ID card in the office because he had gone out to a nearby shop to buy something for lunch and that he needed five minutes to prove he was a journalist – the office was two steps away from where he was detained. Rashevsky runs the Nasha Gazeta account on Instagram. The journalist was released after Sergey Mironov, the photojournalist of Kostanay News, confirmed that Rashevsky indeed works for Nasha Gazeta.
