Preliminary hearings on the lawsuit on liquidation of the public foundation Kloop Media started in the Oktyabrsky District Court of Bishkek. They are held on the basis of the claim of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bishkek. The claim says that Kloop Media is not listed in the state register of mass media, and the organisation’s charter does not specify «dissemination of information». Much of the lawsuit is devoted to the alleged «negative impact» of Kloop Media’s publications on Kyrgyzstan. The prosecutor cites several headlines and materials that, according to the supervisory body, sharply criticise the authorities. However, Kloop Media, like a number of other independent media outlets in Kyrgyzstan, operates under its NGO Charter, which authorises the creation of media outlets and the dissemination of information. Since September 12, the authorities have blocked access to the news website.
