The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sentenced Kirill Martynov, editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe, to six years in prison in absentia on charges of leading an “undesirable organisation” (part 3 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). In addition to Novaya Gazeta Europe, Martynov was accused of participating in the creation of the Free University educational project, which was also recognised as an “undesirable organisation.” He was also banned from administering websites for three years.
