On the morning of May 19, a man in civilian clothes, identifying himself as an electrician, knocked on the door of Dzhumayev’s flat asking for help; according to a source familiar with Dzhumaev’s case, when Dzhumayev opened the door, several law enforcement officers burst into the flat, twisted his arms, took him outside, and forced him into a waiting car. According to this source, Dzhumayev’s parents searched for him at various government offices for five days before authorities called them and informed them that he was in custody. The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that on May 23, a court remanded Dzhumayev in custody for two months until the outcome of the investigation. CPJ was unable to ascertain whether the detention was officially extended.
