The website of the international news agency KazTAG was blocked. The last material KazTAG posted on the website on January 4 was about the detention of the journalist Aizhan Auyelbekova in Taraz. Since then, the website was blocked. The editorial board blamed this on the Ministry of Information and Public Development. The editorial office covered the protests in Zhanaozen, which began on January 2 in connection with an increase in the price of liquefied gas. «Each time, we asked for information from official bodies – the Ministry of Internal Affairs, regional police departments, the Ministry of Defence, akimats, and other agencies. (...) And then we received a letter from the Information Committee with a claim that the information does not correspond to reality and must be removed», -co-founder of KazTAG Aset Matayev explained to the Adil Soz. The website was blocked for several hours.
