It became known that the convicted journalist Katsyaryna Andreyeva (Bahvalava) was tortured in Homiel penal colony № 4. She was placed in the so-called press cell, where cellmates were allowed to abuse Katsyaryna and create unbearable living conditions for her. The journalist was also forbidden to communicate with other «political» prisoners. On July 13, 2022, the judge of Homiel Regional Court Aleh Khoroshko sentenced Katsyaryna Andreyeva to 8 years in a reinforced regime colony on charges of treason. Before that, the journalist was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organisation and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them).
