Several representatives of independent media outlets reported attempts to hack into their personal accounts in Telegram. The founder and director of Govori TV Kaiyrgul Urumkanova said that repeated attempts were made. The hacking attempts were recorded against the backdrop of a discussion of the repressive draft law «On Mass Media,» which was discussed at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, judicial and legal issues, and regulations. Kaiyrgul Urumkanova is a member of the working group that drafted the bill, was present at the meeting, and made comments. According to lawyers, the bill is 95% a copy of a similar Russian act, and provides for mandatory re-registration of media outlets within two months to liquidate media outlets that have not been re-registered.
