Javid Shiraliyev , editor-in-chief of the newspaper 7gün (7 Days), has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes on July 25. He was convicted on charges of fraud. During the trial, Shiraliyev maintained his innocence, claiming he was targeted and defamed because of his journalistic work. In a statement, 7gün described the arrest as politically motivated, alleging that the lengthy prison sentence was carried out under orders from the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan.
