On January 8, journalist Jamil Mammadli was released from the police after criminal charges were brought against him. A preventive measure in the form of staying under police supervision was chosen for the period of investigation. Mammadli said that he was brought as a defendant under Article 221.2.2 (hooliganism associated with resistance to a representative of the authorities or other person performing duties to protect public order or suppressing violation of public order) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Mammadli denied the charge. According to him, on December 15, 2022, the car in which he was travelling was hit by another car. After the accident, he and others who were with him in the damaged car, persuaded the driver responsible for the accident to leave, although he was to blame. However, he provoked a fight.
