The Izmailovsky District Court of Moscow has fined Ivan Kolpakov, editor-in-chief of Meduza, for involvement with an “undesirable” organisation under Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The amount of the fine has not been disclosed. In addition to his role at Meduza, which was designated an “undesirable” organisation in Russia in January 2023, Kolpakov was also charged over an interview he gave to Radio Liberty three years ago. For the first time, a protocol regarding Kolpakov’s connection to an “undesirable” organisation was submitted to the Moscow court in April 2025. However, it was returned to the police because the case materials did not contain “information indicating that Kolpakov had been notified in advance that the decision to initiate the case would be made on April 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m." The second time, the police submitted the protocol concerning the journalist to the court at the end of July.
