Ilya Pitalev was detained by riot police when he was going to a protest rally near the monument "Minsk - Hero City". He was taken to the police station, where a protocol was drawn on violation of the legislation on mass events. Pitalev spent the night in the Pervomaisky District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk, then he spent a day in the Zhodino pre-trial detention centre. He was released on 11 August. The journalist is banned from entering the country for a five-year period.
