Special correspondent for Novaya Gazeta Europe Ilya Azar has been arrested in absentia in Russia on charges of organising the activities of an “undesirable organisation.” The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a warrant for Azar's arrest. The case is linked to the activities of the association “Deputies of Peaceful Russia,” created by former Russian municipal deputies in exile. In August 2024, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office declared this organisation “undesirable.”
