On March 8, the Khatai District Court of Baku chose a preventive measure for the detainees in the Toplum TV case. According to the decision, Akif Gurbanov, Ramil Babayev, and Ilkin Amrakhov were arrested for 4 months each. The journalists were charged under Article 206.3.2 (contraband committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is stated that the flats of the Toplum TV detainees and the editorial office were searched and a certain amount of money was found in each of them. The defendants, however, call the accusation false and claim that the money found was planted by the police themselves.
