The trial of political prisoner and journalist Ihar Ilyash has concluded in the Minsk City Court. Judge Siarhei Katser found the journalist guilty under Article 369–1 of the Criminal Code (discrediting the Republic of Belarus) and Part 2 of Article 361–4 (facilitating extremist activity). Ilyash was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, as well as a fine of 100 base units (4,200 roubles). The journalist was detained for giving interviews to independent Belarusian media and Ukrainian outlets.
