The police detained the journalist on the evening of August 9, on the day of the presidential election, when he was covering a peaceful protest of the citizens who disagreed with the preliminary results of the voting. He was taken to the police department and drawn up a report on violation of the law on mass events (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). The journalist was placed in the detention centre until the trial. On August 10, the court found him guilty and fined him 20 basic amounts.
