The Leninsky District Court of the city of Mogilev has designated the regional news website horki.info and its affiliated social media pages on Facebook, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Instagram as extremist information materials. The website horki.info had been operating for around 15 years and covered exclusively non-political news, reporting on events in the Goretsky, Dribinsky and Mstislavsky districts of the Mogilev region. Since last night, the site has no longer been accessible to users, as the editorial team was forced to cease its activities. On the basis of the court ruling, the Ministry of Information of Belarus has added the online resources to the “Republican List of Extremist Materials”. Under Belarusian law, the distribution and storage of materials deemed extremist entails administrative liability for both publishers and users.
