Gulperi Zhanyshbek kyzy was arrested on suspicion of extortion of money. A criminal case was initiated under the article «extortion». According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a citizen filed a complaint with the police. The Ministry said that the woman was detained while receiving KGS 50,000, part of the sum demanded. Gulperi was taken to a temporary detention centre. The blogger claims that everything was staged by Temirbolot Abykeyev, the Akim (head of the local government) of Kara-Suu District, Osh Region. Two days before her arrest, Gulperi wrote on her Facebook page that the Akim was threatening her. On her pages in social networks, she published materials criticising the local authorities.
